The relentless global appetite for artificial intelligence hardware shows no signs of cooling down. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has officially posted a record-shattering third-quarter net profit of NT$763.1 billion (approximately $23.59 billion), marking an astonishing 69% year-on-year surge.
Beating Wall Street estimates by a wide margin, the milestone represents the chip manufacturing titan's sixth consecutive quarter of record-breaking profits, cementing its status as the indomitable backbone of the modern tech ecosystem.
Driving Forces Behind the Milestone
TSMC's blockbuster quarter was anchored by massive revenue growth, pulling in NT1.49trillion(46.72 billion)—a 50.9% jump compared to the same period last year. Advanced technologies, particularly sub-nodes powering high-performance computing and generative AI accelerators, accounted for a staggering 79% of total wafer revenue.
Despite minor margin pressures brought on by early ramp-up costs for next-generation 2nm manufacturing technologies, leadership maintained an intensely optimistic outlook.
“We are trying to do everything we can, whenever we can, and as fast as we can,” said TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei during the earnings briefing. “We have no intention of leaving food on the table for competitors. We want to capture every possible business opportunity.”
Expanding Global Footprint and Capital Outlays
To keep pace with the hyper-growth cycle, TSMC is accelerating its capital expenditure plans, projecting massive full-year capital investments to support escalating foundry demands. This includes extensive scaling of its multi-billion-dollar fabrication footprints globally, such as its ongoing expansion in Arizona and evaluated projects in Texas to service major American tech giants.
With global customers already looking ahead to reserve capacity well into the late decade, TSMC's record-breaking run underscores that the infrastructure phase of the artificial intelligence revolution remains firmly in hyper-drive.
